Maimed student yet to get promised relief from AP CM Fund

Anantapur: It has been a long wait for Radha, the 18-year-old college student seeking the government relief. She sustained injuries in a tragic RTC bus accident that paralysed her down below the waist that had taken place on January 6, 2015. The accident also claimed lives of 16 students, caused injuries to as many as 60. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had promised an assistance of Rs 8 lakh to the girl out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during one of his district tours. The officials on their part reportedly kept mum without reminding the Chief Minister.
The RTC had paid a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the student, but it is a pittance given the complex treatment the girl had undergone at various super specialty hospitals for the damaged spinal cord. Now the girl is confined to the wheel-chair. She attended the grievances day held on Mondays at the Collectorate here and narrated her tale of woes to the authorities. She told the officials, not in a threatening tone, that she will be compelled to approach the human rights commission in the absence of any concrete support from the government.
Even a person of sound health will be vexed to make rounds to various government offices. There is no surprise a paraplegic in becoming vexed with contacting various officials in the babudom. The student feels that her life is condemned and she became dependent on parents for everything. She once again appealed to the State government with folded hands for liberal help. Otherwise, she has no alternative except approaching the human rights commission, she said.
The locals have raised eyebrows at the delay in extending succor and relief to the injured student. It was high time the government came to her rescue and bailed her out of the predicament. It seems the State government is living in a fool’s paradise that promises are made only to be broken. The axiom is practiced to the hilt in politics. But, the rulers while practicing politics of development and politics of welfare should keep their word to the people. Then only their image in public life will be enhanced.
