Pithapuram: Though viral fever gripped the entire district, people of the town and of the entire mandal are in panic with symptoms of dengue being prevalent all over the town. People allege that lack of proper sanitation appears to be the root-cause for the increasing number of viral fever cases.

The number of viral fever cases is increasing every day at Gollaprolu and Chebrolu Primary Health Centres (PHC) and at private hospitals. At Gollaprolu PHC, out of nearly 200 out-patient cases, most of them are said to be of viral fever. The lab-confirmed dengue cases are being referred by the local doctors to Kakinada hospital. With an opinion that even at Kakinada hospital the facilities may not be available many patients are hesitant to go to Kakinada.

People have been complaining that poor sanitation was the main reason for the widespread viral fevers as heaps of garbage, are widely seen all around the town. People say that the Municipal officials confined themselves to leading a rally with the slogan ‘war against mosquitoes’, but, indeed, they did nothing towards that direction.
