Rajamahendravaram: Everyone should make efforts for the development of society by using rights present in the Constitution of India, AP SC/ST Commission chairman Karem Sivaji said here on Wednesday. He attended a national Dalit seminar held at Adikavi Nannaya University near Rajamahendravaram on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he called upon Dalits, tribals and backward class people to make use of rights placed in the Constitution by Dr B R Ambedkar and advocate a caste-free society. Stating that universities play a crucial role in eradicating untouchability, he called upon students to get motivation through learning. He stressed on the need for condemnation of attacks on unprivileged sections of the society and put onus on everyone to make sure that attacks will not repeat.
He also stressed on the need for education in order to eliminate untouchability.

He called upon the students from SC, ST and backward classes to make use of the assistance being provided by the State government. Adikavi Nannaya University, vice-chancellor M Muthyala Naidu made it clear that education is very important for the development of society.

He said that the reservations for SC, ST and BCs are being implemented on full-scale in the university and added that students from unprivileged sections are obtaining knowledge and sharing it.

Stating that it is good to conduct a national Dalit seminar marking the birthday of famous poet Gurram Jashua, he advised students to study the literary works of the poet. SC/ST cell director of the university, Kalyani presided over the meeting. Registrar of the university, N Narasimha Rao, principals K Ramesh, Subba Reddy, Matta Reddy, P Suresh Babu, N V Sasidhar and deputy director, district social welfare department Shobha Rani were present on the occasion.
