Visakhapatnam: Cardiac Awareness Walk was held by faculties of Apollo Hospitals from Kalimatha Temple to YMCA at Beach Road at 6 am on Thursday, to mark World Heart Day.The walk, flagged off by East Coast Railway divisional manager Chandralekha Mukherjee, was proposed to educate public about the rising incidences of cardiac arrests.

An alarming trend is heart attacks becoming prevalent in people as young as 35 years. The most affected are corporate professionals who lead a highly stressful, sedentary lifestyle, studies reveal.

India has a dubious distinction of being the cardiac disease capital of the world. We can be free of this menace if we adopt a healthy lifestyle by maintaining ideal body weight, avoiding smoking, adopting vegetarian food with lots of green leafy vegetables, giving up on fried foods, burgers and colas, practising yoga, and drinking 8 to 10 litres of water every day,” said senior cardiologist Dr DK Baruah, at the event.
