Visakhapatnam: The district had laid elaborate plans to achieve 15 percent growth for this financial year, District Collector Praveen Kumar told Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during the Collectors’ conference being held at Vijayawada.

The district stood second in the State last year by achieving 13.28 percent growth and this year it will get the top position, he said.The Collector gave a PowerPoint presentation to the Chief Minister explaining his plans to achieve the target.

Last year, 37.67 percent growth was achieved in the industrial sector, 50.04 percent in the service sector and 12.29 percent in the primary sector.Focus will be on the primary sector to achieve a growth rate of 23.20 percent and the first quarter of this financial year had shown positive results.

He said to achieve the growth, an amount of Rs 315.14 crore was being invested in micro, small and medium scale industries and Rs 39, 468 crore in mega and heavy industries. This investment would provide employment to 65,000 people and entrepreneur opportunities.

The Collector explained the Chief Minister on the problems being faced for expansion of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, HPCL and proposed industries in Achyutapuram, Paykaraopeta, Aganampudi and Appikonda.
Regarding tourism projects, the Collector said 17 of the 19 projects proposed last year have been completed and the remaining would be completed this year.

An amount of Rs 348 crore was sanctioned for these projects. Similarly, Rs 15 crore was being spent for beach beautification at Sagarnagar, Endada, Rushikonda, Mangamaripeta, Bhimili, Revupolaaram and Yarada. Thotlakonda beach has been completed with a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.

On housing, the Collector said Rs 1,000 crore was being proposed for constructing 70,254 dwellings for the economically weaker sections. In order to encourage private investment, approvals were given for projects worth Rs 6,812 crore, he told the Chief Minister.
