Eluru: All the Panchayati street lighting will be controlled through an online system in West Godavari district to save energy, according to Collector K Bhaskar.Addressing Panchayati officials at a review meeting held at Collector office here on Friday, the Collector said that the online system introduction to maintain the street lighting will save power consumption and money also. He said at present about 2.75 lakh electrical poles are erected in rural areas, of which 1.90 lakh poles have street lights. He said that after changing the streetlights to LED bulbs, the online system will be introduced.
He further said that the online system controls the on and off system of the street lights in the rural areas. “This will minimise the financial burden on the Panchayats in the district. The online system will minimise power charges from Rs 5,000 to Rs 3,000 per month,” he said. He said that half of the saved money will be utilised to the panchayat and the remaining to online maintenance expenditure. The Collector said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directed all districts to implement the new system taken up by West Godavari district which is using the modern technology in various activities.
He stated that the district received appreciation from the Chief Minister with the implementation of electronic administration in the rural areas of the district. The Collector directed officials to extend quicker services with transparency to the people.
The online system that was implemented in the district eased the burden on the shoulders of the employees, he opined. He said that the Panchayats should maintain cleanliness for a healthy atmosphere and stated that the Panchayati sanitary wing should take up the responsibility to remove the garbage on the street. He directed Panchayati officials to provide computers with internet facility in the offices and directed them to issue death and birth certificates with a digital signature to the applicants. He also directed them to take up steps to issue these digitally-signed certificates from Panchayati offices.
