Atmakur: Despite fixing fibre mirrors at the Nallamala turning on the Atmakur-Nallamala ghat road accidents are occurring unabated. During the last 40 days there were seven mishaps, causing a scare among both travellers and vehicle drivers.

The victims blame both the Forest and R&B departments for their alleged negligence. Several persons were rendered disabled in the accidents. The Forest department has objected to laying of speed-breakers on the road. Large number of accidents on the Kurnool-Guntur road is being blamed on account of narrow roads. The R&B department is not keen on taking up expansion of road network.

The fibre mirrors were fixed at 15 spots by the R&B department to a stretch of 30 km from Byrluti to Rollapenta ghats keeping in view many vehicles falling into a valley after collisions because of several dangerous turnings, high and low points on the road from Atmakur to Dornala on highway 340-C to a stretch of 60 km passing via Nallamala. The 30-km ghat road passing through the valley in the Nallamala forest lying close to borders of Kurnool and Prakasam districts is proving to be dangerous for the road-users.

The fibre mirrors enable the road-users to clearly view the vehicles coming from the left side of the road, besides the sharp turnings as also vehicles coming from a distance of half a km. They also help drivers travelling at good speed to see 180 degree wide angle area, proving their utility value now.
