​Anantapur: District Collector Kona Sasidhar hailed the space scientists for their remarkable achievements in the field of space technology and placing the country on par with other developed nations with regard to developing cryogenic space technology.Inaugurating the World Space Week celebrations organised by SSBN College in coordination with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) here on Tuesday, Sasidhar said that the ISRO scientists took up the challenge of developing indigenous space technology at a time when no nation came forward to share its space technology with India.

Using the technology, as many as 6,000 check dams were constructed in the district on a scientific basis. The Collector said that satellite phones were used during teh Hudhud cyclone in Visakhapatnam. Geo-tagging of farm ponds, e-PoS system for disbursement of essential commodities and biometric system for disbursement of old age pensions and other benefits are all the products of space technology developed by our scientists, he added.

He lauded them for holding the celebrations in a backward district like Anantapur. He said that the models displayed with regard to space technology and satellites as highly educative. He also requested the ISRO to organise student tours to Sriharikota. Zilla Parishad Chairman Chaman Saab congratulated the ISRO for developing space technologies on par with USA, Germany and Japan. College secretary P L N Reddy was also present.
