Central archaeology department is having control over the temple to protect ancient historical monuments. Srimukhalingam Temple is having similar artistic qualities with Konark Temple, Lingaraju Temple and Puri Jagannadha Temple in Odisha. As it is situated adjacent to Vamsadhara river, famous for holy baths during auspicious days.

Due to lack of sufficient road facility, devotees are facing trouble during festivals, particularly on the eve of Maha Shivaratri. Ring road is also imminent around the temple to clear traffic. Narrow road from Jarjangi village to Pindruvada via Srimukhalingam is causing hurdles for traffic and devotees are hesitating to visit the temple due to this reason. To overcome the problem, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has assured to develop Sri Mukhalingam by widening road and to form ring road around the temple during his visit to the district in first week of May this year.

As part of it, engineering department officials proposed plans to widen road from Jarjangi to Pindruvada village via Srimukhalingam for 40 feet. The length of the road is 30 km and government sanctioned Rs 30 crore for it and width of existing road is 12 feet, said roads and buildings deputy executive engineers (DEEs) K Satyannarayana and Raminaidu.

We have conducted detailed survey on field for extension of existing 12 feet road to 40 feet. But main temple’s Dwajasthambam must be removed for which Central archaeology department objected as it is ancient monument,” the DEEs added. “We reported the same to our higherofficials,” they added.

Along with road, other development works like compound wall, guest house, rest rooms, queue lines, prasadam counters and preparation room (kitchen) buildings are required,” said temple EO VV Suryanarayana, principal priest T Pedalinganna and his assistant T Srikrishna. However, archaeology department officials did not give its nod, they said. We are following rules under Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010 (AMASR Act),” said senior conservation assistant of central archaeology department Srinivasa Rao.
