​Tirupati: After YSRCP, now it’s the turn of Congress to launch the campaign for the ensuing Tirupati Municipal Corporation elections.Party senior leader and former MP Chinta Mohan, along with PCC secretary Pramilamma led the campaign, which started at Jeevakona (Rajiv Nagar) a down town area, which was merged with corporation two years ago, on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohan said that the credit of achieving independence to the country and introducing many revolutionary measures in the post independence era goes to Congress, citing abolition of Privy Purse, nationalisation of banks, green revolution, industrial revolution and also rapid progress in science and technology. Reminding the popular `Garibi Hatao’ slogan of the late Indira Gandhi, he said the Congress through five year plan, waiving of agriculture loans and liberal financial facilities through the nationalised banks saw the betterment of scores of poor in the country.

He did not miss the opportunity to hit hard ruling TDP, which he said is miserably failed in fulfilling its election promises, and went on explaining how the party letdown the people of the State with regard to Special Category Status.

Exuding confidence of winning majority divisions in the corporation elections, Mohan said tickets for contesting in the corporation elections will be given to those people who have a clean image and good education.Answering to a query, he said that he will convince the high command to have alliance with Left parties to see the anti-people TDP routed.

It is interesting to note that though the election to the corporation, which is pending since 2007, is yet to be announced officially, all the political parties have already geared up for the polls.It is needless to say that the good old party, which failed to get a single Assembly or Parliament seat in the 2014 elections, is keen on regaining the confidence of the people in the elections, while the main opposition party YSR Congress Party, which also began the campaign already in the pilgrim city, taking the election as an opportunity to hit the ruling party by winning the corporation in the home district of Chief Minister. P Chandrasekhar, Santhi Yadav, Savithri Yadav and others were present.
