Focus on making Vijayawada, Amaravati top tourist centres

Vijayawada: Capital cities Vijayawada and Amaravati would become tourist centres as the government is encouraging eco-tourism in the State, said Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) chairman Prof V Jayarami Reddy. The APTDC would give high importance to temple tourism and development of ignored areas, he added.

Prof. Jayarami Reddy spoke to The Hans India after assuming charge here on Thursday. He said that the APTDC would try to coordinate with Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam (TTD) to develop the Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Ananthavaram in Amaravati.

The chairman said the temple city Tirupati is already developed as an international tourist spot and beach city Visakhapatnam is also developed and attracting large number of tourists. Prof Reddy said that he would like to focus on Bhavani Island and forming Tourism Company for development of islands in river Krishna. The chairman said that the Bhavani Island would be the one of the major tourist destination in the State in the coming years.

Jayarami Reddy said that APTDC would plan to develop Kolleru Lake as a big tourist spot providing better connectivity between West Godavari and Krishna districts. Further the chairman said that he would take the cooperation of TTD to develop the Kanaka Durga temple and Venkateswara Swamy temple at Ananthavaram, both located in the new capital region.

State has 970 km of sea coast and the APTDC will develop tourism on the coastal line. The government will plan to develop tourism from Srikakulam to Tada” he said. The chairman further said that tourism projects would create employment for youth and that he would study the potential of tourism places in all 13 districts and prepare plan to take up new projects. He also said that he would identify the neglected areas and try to bring them back to lime light.
