Vijayawada: Lok Satta founder president Jayaprakash Narayan said that even though the State Government was spending Rs19,000 crore every year for education, it was not taking any measure to increase the standards. He convened an executive body meeting of the party at IMA hall, here on Saturday.Speaking to mediapersons, he lamented that no effort was being made to increase the quality of education in the State.

Referring to Krishna Pushkaralu and Dasara festivals, the opined that religion the duty of the government was to maintain hygiene and control the law and order during the festivals. He said that it was not necessary to spend hundreds of crores for Pushkaralu. “One should be rational while spending money from State exchequer,” he said and took a dig at TDP government for spending lavishly for religious activities.

Referring to Mudra scheme, implemented by BJP government, he said that State accrued least benefit. “State received only Rs 5,790 crore with less than eight lakh beneficiaries against the total loans sanctioned to 4.63 crore people in India. As much as four per cent of India’s population lives in the State but only .034 per cent people were benefited with the scheme,” he averred.
