Amaravati: Viral fevers are on the rise in Guntur district as thousands of patients suffering from the fevers taking admission into hospitals. Private hospitals are flooded with the patients suffering from viral fevers. Some private hospitals are giving treatment for dengue fevers to the suspected dengue fever patients as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, some patients are asking dengue treatment for suspected dengue cases also.

When the dengue fiver is confirmed, the private hospitals are collecting thousands of rupees for administering platelets to the patients. Some hospitals are collecting fee in the range of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 from the dengue patients. In addition to this, they are collecting separate fee for ICU and medicines. Depending upon the situation and financial position of the patient, doctors are collecting fees differently. Following instructions from the District Medical and Health Department, the doctors are treating the patients. Similarly, in the GGH, doctors are treating the patients in the out-patient ward.

According to a survey conducted by the malaria department, so far 117 dengue cases were registered the in Guntur district. The government doctors are conducting Elisa tests and if the result is positive, they are giving treatment for dengue fevers in the GGH.T Padma, a resident of AT Agraharam said her husband and two children have been suffering from viral fevers for the last one week. “So far, I have spent Rs 15,000 towards doctor fee, medicines and medical tests. There is need to improve sanitation in AT Agraharam,” she said.

GGH Superintendent Raju Naidu said, “We have set up two separate wards for dengue patients-- one ward for adults and another ward for children. We have one platelet machine. This machine is enough to administer the platelets to the patients suffering from dengue fever in the GGH. We are giving treatment to the patients suffering from other viral fevers in the OP and sending report to the government every day. As many as 13 patients are suffering from dengue.”

District Malaria Officer Dr V Ravindra Babu said, “We are conducting door-to-door survey to know malaria and dengue cases. So far 117 dengue and 254 malaria cases were registered in the district. Compared to last year, this year the number of malaria cases have come down. Generally, patients’ platelets count will come down in dengue cases. When platelets fell below 20,000 and patient suffer from bleeding. The patients needs to administer platelets immediately.”

DMHO T Padmaja Rani said, “District Collector Kantilal Dande held a meeting with the managements of private hospitals and instructed not to collect higher fee from the dengue fever patients. We have opened a special ward for dengue in the GGH.The district collector instructed to launch special sanitation drive to improve sanitation to check spread of dengue and malaria cases. " Dr.T.Seva Kumar said " Every day we are getting dengue fever case. The patients are need not worry about dengue fever. We are giving treatment, the patients are recovering. Stressed on need to keep surroundings clean ."
