Rural housing gets push in East Godavari

Kakinada: Housing for rural poor under below poverty line (BPL) category got top nod in East Godavari in the selection and execution of both NTR Housing and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in all 56 mandals in the district. As far as NTR housing is concerned total 14,250 people will be provided houses taking 1,250 into one unit. In total 10,000 beneficiaries were selected in the first phase execution which will be commencing from the last week of October with a unit cost of Rs 1.50 lakh. Of the total unit cost, the State government will provide Rs 95,000 and the rest Rs 55,000 as NREGS component. The selection of beneficiaries was entrusted to Janmabhoomi committees with the selection process at gramasabhas.

East Godavari Housing Department project director (PD) B Dhanunjayudu said that BPL and white card are the criteria for selection of beneficiaries for NTR housing. As far the selection process is concerned the beneficiaries for NTR housing has been finalised as per the recommendations of Janmabhoomi committees.
For PMAY, the lists were sent after proper scrutiny by DRDA (District Rural Development Agency) and other agencies. We have selected the beneficiaries as per the lists sent to us. The lists are being displayed on line for the transparency the PD revealed. The execution will start from last week of this month, he said.
However East Godavari BJP district unit president Yenimireddy Malakondareddy alias Malakondayya altogether said something different. He alleged that in no way in the selection process the name of the Union government lead by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being mentioned. Besides this, all the selection process is being conducted by Janmabhoomi committees with no reference to gramasabhas, he said. He also said the Janmabhoomi committees have no role to play in this selection as per the guidelines.
