Vijayawada: In a noble act, family members of a brain dead person donated his organs on Wednesday. Two important organs, the heart and the liver were airlifted to Hyderabad from Gannavaram airport in a special flight. The heart and the liver will be transplanted to two persons in Hyderabad.
G Vamsi Krishna, a hardware professional, who was working in an engineering college in Jaggaiahpet, was suffering from headache and joined Andhra Hospital in Vijayawada on Monday.

Doctors from Hyderabad arrived in Vijayawada by road on Wednesday morning and airlifted heart and liver by a special flight to Hyderabad.

Two eyes were donated to Vasan Eye Care Hospital. One kidney was sent to NRI Hospital in Guntur and another to Ayush Hospital in Vijayawada. Dr Ramana Murthy, chairman of the Andhra Hospital, said the family members of 29-year-old Vamsi Krishna decided to donate the organs.
Vamsi Krishna was suffering from headache for the past five years.

His father G Venugopala Rao said he was taking ayurvedic treatment for head ache and was admitted to Andhra Hospital on Monday. Vamsi Krishna’s mother G Rajeswari and other family members decided to donate the organs of Vamsi Krishna so that they can give a new lease of life to others. They contacted Arogyadana, Government Department which deals with organ donation.

Andhra Hospital made necessary arrangements. Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang arranged Green Channel from Andhra Hospital to Gannavaram airport for speedy passing of ambulance to airlift the two organs.The family lives near Kamala theatre in Jaggaiahpet. A large number of local residents, relatives, friends, engineering college staff, students came to Andhra Hospital to express their solidarity with the family members of Vamsi Krishna.

K Seshu, cousin of Vamsi Krishna, said the family members took a good decision to donate the organs since he was declared brain dead at 29.Hundreds people in Jaggaiahpet welcomed the ambulance which brought the body of Vamsi Krishna. They paid floral tributes to the departed soul, whose organs, will give a new lease of life to at least five persons.
