Atmakur (Kurnool): The Srichakra installed by Adi Shankaracharya at the feet of the idol of goddess Saraswathi in the sanctum sanctorum of Kolanu Bharathi temple in the Nallamala forest is not visible fully to the devotees visiting the ancient shrine. Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam and Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada are the only other shrines in the State which have a Srichakra in the sanctum sanctorum. Only half of the Srichakra is visible now due to some changes made in the sanctum sanctorum by the temple authorities, allegedly in violation of Agama Shastra. Half of the sacred Srichakra in the temple got covered, hurting the sentiments of devotees.

According to the head of Sri Sarada Peetham and other seers, darshan of a half Srichakra does not bode well for devotees. Eminent sculptor Sunder Rajan of Tamil Nadu who visited Kolanu Bharathi shrine three years ago, asked the temple authorities to remove the tiles which were hindering the full visibility of Srichakra. But no action has been taken in this regard so far. As a result, devotees visiting the temple are forced to be content with the darshan of half Srichakra which they believe does not augur well for them.

Temple authorities have paid no heed to several representations by devotees seeking the removal of tiles which were obstructing the full visibility of Srichakra, the endowments officials seem to be adamant in rectifying the anomaly. The Endowments department had taken up the renovation of the lone Saraswathi temple in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of Rs 1 crore to make it a major pilgrim centre in Kurnool district. The sanctum sanctorum of Kolanu Bharathi temple will not be touched during its renovation.

When contacted, Kolanu Bharathi temple Executive Officer Chandrasekhar Reddy told The Hans India that the matter was already taken to the notice of the top officials. Steps would be taken soon to ensure the full visibility of Srichakra for devotees visiting the famous shrine and the temple would take all measures to honour the sentiments of devotees, said the EO.
