Call to improve literacy rate
According to 2011 statistics, India occupied 137th place in literacy levels among 214 countries. Under the Sakshar Bharat literacy campaign which started in 2010, six phases have been completed. Anantapur: Joint Collector B Lakshmikantham has called upon literacy workers to strive to improve the literacy level in the district as education is the panacea for all ills of society.Participating in the seventh leg of literacy campaign in the district, Joint Collector Lakshmikantham said literacy gives one self-confidence, while illiterate people cannot take good decisions. “Out of 5.5 lakh DWCRA women in the district, 1.7 lakh women are still illiterate. A nation’s prosperity and development is determined by its literacy levels,” he said.
