Kakinada: With the Kakinada civic body polls expected to be conducted within two months time, major contenders like TDP and YSRCP are in the forefront to reach out the electorate. The Left parties and Congress seem to be adopting wait and watch policy in the polls which is likely to be conducted after six year special officer rule.

The TDP on its part conducted Arogya (Swachch) Andhra Pradesh and Domalapai Dandayatra programmes where Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu attended it on Saturday without mentioning the local body polls issue. A few days earlier on October 19, Kakinada MP and TDP parliamentary party leader Thota Narasimham announced the setting up of NIFT, Indian Institute of Packing (IIP) and office of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) as Kakinada is a hub for export and imports with two ports to its credit.

The MP while announcing the sanction of these denied of having any link with the civic body polls. It is said that as part of the strategy the TDP government was even preparing to pay the second installment of promised capacity building amount provident fund Rs 3,000 out of the promised Rs 10,000 to each woman of self-help groups (SHGs) member.

As far as the YSRCP is concerned, the party in both Kakinada rural and city constituencies has been organising door to door campaign (Gadara Gadapaku) in all the 50 divisions in the city. The city in-charge Mutta Sasidhar, rural constituency in-charge and party East Godavari district unit president Kurasala Kannababu during their campaign, highlighted the failures of ruling TDP in all fronts.

Attacking the ruling TDP, Kannababu came down heavily over the conduct of Domalapai Dandayatra programme. Without improving sanitation and regular lifting of garbage and without proper dumping yard facility how can the city be free of mosquitoes, he questioned. We are waiting for the implementation of High court directive to conduct polls within two months on or before December 24.

Former Kakinada corporator and social activist Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju criticised the TDP administration for making false claims on city development with smart city tag. The High Court directed the authorities to conduct civic body polls in next two months time on or before last week of December. The rulers should implement the same as by November 2016, the Kakinada civic body completed six years without an elected body, he said. Commencing on Domalapai Dandayatra programme on Saturday, he observed that Rs 2 crore corporation funds wasted on the programme.
