Vizianagaram: Following the major encounter at the Andhra-Odisha border, which had resulted in the deaths of 24 Maoists and a constable, police have alerted their counterparts in the agency areas of Vizianagaram district. Salur, Pachipenta, Komarada, Parvathipuram, Kurupam, Makkuva and GL Puram mandals have a large tribal population and some of these villages are located near the Odisha border.

There have been incidents of extremism in these villages in the past and police suspect that the Maoist leaders who had escaped from the encounter on Monday might have fled into the neighbouring districts. As a result, police have intensified their combing operations and special teams have been deployed in Parvathipuram, Salur and Makkuva. We will not allow any anti-social elements into our geographical area. We are keeping a strict vigil and shall thwart any attempts by Maoists to take shelter or infiltrate into the district,” said Additional SP (Operations) KVA Naidu.
