Mandapeta (East Godavari): The Telugu Desam government is giving priority to the agriculture, Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao said here on Wednesday. He inaugurated the rythu bazaar built with Rs 43 lakh in Gandhinagar in Mandapeta.Speaking on the occasion, Prathipati said that the objective of rythu bazaars is to give vegetables at low prices to consumers and also provide profits to farmers.

He informed that another two rythu bazaars will be set up at Anagara and Rayavaram villages very soon and added that there are 80 rythu bazaars in the State. He further said that the State government has been making arrangements to bring vegetables which are not available in the district from other districts and sell them at lower prices. He said that godowns will be constructed to help farmers store their produce and added that ripening chambers will also be constructed to prevent farmers from using chemicals for ripening fruits.

He also said that there are proposals for setting cold storages in rythu bazaars to prevent vegetables from getting rotten. Stating that there is no dearth of funds for agriculture, he said that godowns will be constructed with the capacity of four metric tonnes. Later, he distributed fishing nets to fishermen on subsidy and tractors for farmers. Mandapeta MLA Vegulla Jogeswara Rao and chairman Chundru Sri Vara Prakash were present on the occasion.
