Amaravati: PG medical students of Guntur Medical College boycotted their duties and staged a dharna at GGH Superintendent chamber in the government hospital on Wednesday, demanding action against Professor Lakshmi. They said that the government was yet to take action against Professor Lakshmi despite her name being mentioned in the suicide note of deceased medico Sandhya.

Sandhya had mentioned in the note that she was committing suicide due to harassment and insults at the hands of Lakshmi. The students said they would persist with their agitation until action was taken against the professor. They later submitted a representation to officials at the Collectorate demanding action against Lakshmi. The family of Sandhya had lodged a complaint with the police against Lakshmi, who had been absconding since then.

AP Mahila Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari who visited the hospital addressed the students and said she would take up the issue with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Kapu Corporation chairman Ramanujaya urged the officials take stern action against Lakshmi and do justice to Sandhya’s family. Director of Medical Education Dr BV Subba Rao said that he had ordered an inquiry and would take further action based on the report.
