Alur/Pathikonda: Officials of the Excise and Prohibition Department conducted raids at several places in Pathikonda and Alur and destroyed ganja plantations and illicit liquor on Thursday. Alur Circle Inspector Madhava Swamy said, “We have conducted raids on the lands of one Boya Shikari Chinna Veeresh of Binigeri village in Alur mandal and destroyed 60 ganja plants which were planted in the cotton crop.” The destroyed ganja plants were estimated to cost nearly Rs 60,000. A case was filed against Veeresh under the Narcotics and Drugs Act and he was taken into custody, the CI said.

Meanwhile, Pathikonda Excise Circle Inspector Chandra Sekhar said raids were conducted as part of cluster raids in PM Thanda, MM Thanda, Lakshmi Thanda and Rollapadu Thanda and 2,200 litres of fermented jaggery wash, which was to be used in the preparation of illicit liquor, was destroyed. During the raids, 95 litres of country-made liquor was also destroyed. Four cases were registered in this connection and a hunt was launched to nab the culprits.Sub-Inspectors, Village Revenue Assistants and others participated in the raids.
