Adoni: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) division president Linganna staged a protest in front of the Kosigi Tahsildar office on Monday demanding the government to declare Kosigi a drought-hit mandal. Later, the CITU leaders submitted a representation to the Tahsildar seeking justice to the farmers.

On the occasion, Linganna said farmers in Kosigi mandal were facing severe drought conditions for the last three years. They were in deep trouble due to crop loss.

Unable to repay the loans, many farmers committed suicide,” he said. Despite drought conditions prevailing for the last three years, the government did not declare the mandal drought-hit and no compensation was given to the farmers, he said. He demanded compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre to each debt-ridden farmer besides taking up NREGS works in the mandal to prevent migrations.

Kosigi Tahsildar said that he would take up the issue with the higher authorities. CITU divisional secretary Ramudu, Venkateshulu, Malli, Gopal and others were present.
