Vijayawada: Congress staged a protest in Nandigama of Krishna district on Wednesday demanding the State government pay ment of Rs 10 crore dues to subabul farmers. Addressing a gathering here on Wednesday, former Union Minister M Pallam Raju alleged that the State government did not bother about the problems being faced by the farmers in the State.

He said that the Chief Minister was not keen on the issue of subabul farmers even though he was functioning from Vijayawada. He was acting against promises made in the last elections and left the farmers to their fate. Pallam Raju demanded that the State government scrap the GO 143 for the benefit of the farmers.

The former Minister said that Congress would fight to protect the interests of the farmers in the State even though it was not in power.

Andhra Pradesh Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmasri demanded the State government payment of Rs 10 crore dues to subabul farmers immediately.

She recalled that Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao had staged protests for the problems of subabul farmers when he was in Opposition. But when he was at the helm, he is not redressing the farmers’ grievances. District Congress Committee president Dhanekula Murali, senior leader Parameswara Rao and others participated.
