Following the five-state bandh call given by the Maoists, tension prevailed in several areas along the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) on Thursday.

The security cover in the naxalite infested states - Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh, has been intensified by the police who are conducting massive search operations to nab the Maoists and their sympathisers.

It may be recalled that the Maoists called for the bandh in the five states as a protest against the police encounter in Malkangiri district of Odisha on October 24 where over two dozen rebels were killed. As a precautionary measure, police have deployed additional security forces in the sensitive areas of the Telugu states.

RTC bus operations have been suspended in Andhra Pradesh while additional forces have been deployed in Visakha agency areas and the Chattisgarh-Telangana border to prevent any untoward incidents.
