Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that Amaravati would be a knowledge hub and a role model for the world. “Several varsities and institutes of national and international repute will make the city as world's best education hub,” he said.

The Chief Minister took part in foundation stone-laying ceremony for Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) branch at Inavolu here on Thursday and said that the capital city would come to a shape in one year.

Expressing joy over arrival of VIT, the Chief Minister said that several reputed varsities like SRM, Amrita, AIIMS, Agriculture University, Water Resources University, Stanford and Harvard University would come up in Amaravati.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay stone for Indo-UK foundation medical college and hospital,” he added. He said that investments from private sector would bring in development opportunities.

“Thousands of crores are required for creation of infrastructure in the new capital,” he said and claimed that education institutions were coming to the region as they have faith in his leadership.

“Business institutions, banks, hotels and hospitals will dot the capital soon. Amaravati will be a world-class city, if companies from far and across set up their shop here,” he averred.

Naidu said that VIT would provide space for 50,000 students in next 20 years. “State has 25 per cent share in the software development globally.” he said and recalled that engineering colleges were increased from 30 to 300 in combined AP.

He criticised the Opposition party for creating hurdles for Amaravati capital city. Finding fault with Opposition’s campaign of one lakh crore corruption, “Where is the question of corruption, if the lands are still with the farmers,” he said.

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Ministers N Chinarajappa, P Narayana, P Pulla Rao, MP Galla Jayadev, VIT chancellor G Viswanathan and several officials of the education institutions were also present.
