Anantapur: Member of Parliament (MP) for Anantapur parliamentary constituency J C Diwakar Reddy has launched operation clean-up at Maruvanka in Suryanagar in the city on Thursday. The MP took up initiative as foul smell was emanating every day from tonnes of garbage which was piled up in the colonies. He engaged two proclainers to rid the Maruvanka from the tonnes of waste and neutralise foul smell.

Talking to reporters while supervising the operation here, Diwakar said that the operation was being financed by friends and well wishers. “Already an operation clean-up proposal costing Rs 30 crore had been sent to the State and Central governments,” he added. The scheme includes building of a retaining wall to protect the stream from garbage throwing. Until the scheme materialises, he has taken up the programme on a temporary basis to relieve the citizens of the foul smell as the road happened to be the gate way to enter the city for outsiders.

He brushed aside critics that he is hyper active in the city and has vested interests. He said that Anantapur city is nobody's and all leaders in the city have had migrated from elsewhere. He said that he has close links with the city and the people from the time when his father served as ZP Chairman in the 1960's.

He lashed out at all his critics saying why can't they simply watch the good work he is doing instead of criticising him'. He said that the citizens of the city are good people and are cooperating with him. He stated that the city should emerge cleaner and beautiful like the Tadipatri civic body which stands second in the country. His only intention was to keep the city flag fly high in the country.
