Tirupati: As many as 254 cases were booked and Rs 14 lakh penalty was imposed by the Discom Vigilance department for energy pilferage and various irregularities including utilising domestic power supply for commercial purposes, unauthorised overload, bypassing metres etc. Officials of the Vigilance department along with engineering personnel on Saturday took up extensive raids in Chittoor, Srikalahasti, Piler and Madanapalle leading to the detection of power pilferage and other irregularities.

Speaking to media here on Saturday Discom chief vigilance officer P Manohar Rao said in all 48 personnel including Detection of Pilferage of Energy (DPE) wing, assistant engineers and other staff separated into various batches were involved in the surprise raid in the Fourth Town in Chittoor city leading to the detection of irregularities by the consumers.

The details of the cases booked are 220 for extra load, 2 metre bypass, 30 utilising domestic power supply for commercial purpose and metre irregularity two each. Manohar Rao said that surprise raids would go on till the power pilferage and other irregularities were completely stopped and sought the general public to help the Discom authorities in detecting power theft. Superintendent Engineer (anti- power pilferage wing) V Ravi was also present.
