Jagan flays Naidus for ‘pledging AP interests for tag’

Visakhapatnam: YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of accepting the NDA government’s offer for special package as a substitute to the special category status to the truncated state in a bid to bail himself out from the cash for vote scam.

He was addressing an impressive rally here as part of kick-starting a state-wide agitation for the special category status as a prelude to his party’s decision to let YSRCP MPs resign from their posts on the issue.

Even as Naidu is an accused in the cash-for-vote scam, Jagan alleged that Naidu was influencing his NDA ally to get Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao to dilute the case and help him out. “This is the reason why Naidu gave in to the package regardless of his claims that the issue of special category status was non-negotiable to his government.” Jagan said. “Chandrababu betrayed the people and deeply hurt the self pride and sentiments of Andhras by compromising on special category status which is the key to state’s rebuilding,” he said.

The YSRCP leader further alleged that Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu brokered peace between Naidu and KCR as a pre-condition for AP CM’s approval for the special package. Jagan depicted Chandrababu as Brutus who backstabbed Julius Caesar in the William Shakespeare’s play, explaining how he had engineered a coup to dislodge his mentor and then Chief Minister NT Rama Rao.

Stating that Babu had no self pride, Jagan said NT Rama Rao founded Telugu Desam Party with a single slogan of self respect for Telugu speaking people. Entire state rallied behind him bringing the TDP to power. “Now NTR’s soul will never lay rested if he happened to see how Naidu mortgaged self respect of the same Telugus for his personal gain,’’ the Opposition leader said making people to stand and applause.

He told the people that the special category status will never become a reality unless a relentless fight was put up all over the state. “The Chief Minister is threatening to slap PD Act against those asking for special status and separate railway zone and hence the road to the achieving goal needed a spirited fight while elaborating on how TRS took the separate Telangana movement to its logical end,” he said.
