Vijayawada: Municipal Workers Union State president B Tulasendra demanded of the State government to scrap the GO 279 which according to him would harm the interests of municipal workers. Addressing the union State council meeting on Sunday, Tulasendra said that the State government had issued the GO permitting municipal bodies to introduce machines for sanitation works such as cleaning drains, sweeping roads etc.
He said that the government had not recruited thousands of workers needed by municipal corporations, for years. He found fault with the government for trying to make Swachh Bharat a success while decreasing the number of municipal workers.
Union general secretary Asula Ranganayakulu alleged that the government was working for the interests of contractors and extending financial help to buy machinery for sanitation works. It was a clear attempt to curtail the number of sanitation workers in local bodies, he said. He demanded that the government release wages to workers for the duration of their strike period in 2015.
