2,849 fair shops to get electronic Point of Sale soon:District Supply Officer

Chittoor: To bring transparency in the distribution of essential commodities, District Supply Officer (DSO) B Nageswara Rao said on Tuesday that electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) machines will be introduced in 2,849 fair price shops soon in the district. The ePoS machines will facilitate to supply essentials to ration card holders based on bio-metric information.

Speaking to the media here, the DSO said that there are 10,27,892 white ration card holders and 1,33,261 pink card holders in the district. He stated that 8,69,432 Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiaries in the district were receiving rice from fair price shops. “7,24,555 ration card holders were covered under the National Food Security Act as per the instructions of the Central government,” he added.

The DSO further said white ration card holders have brought to his notice that they could not get essentials due to mismatch in finger prints at fair price shops due to technical glitches.

He stated that the Village Revenue Officers are authorised to sanction essentials to card holders from ration shops. He pointed out that ration card holders can get commodities from any ration shop in the State if they fail to get their monthly quota under portability system.

Instructions were given to dealers for improving green cover in the premises of ration shops, he added. The DSO said that 3.29 lakh white ration card holders in the district are having LPG connections under the Deepam scheme.

“30,000 new connections will be released shortly and 30,000 more applications were kept pending,” he said. The official stated that 10,000 cooking gas connections will be released along with gas stoves as part of Ujjwala scheme.
