Vijayawada: The State government would convene a meeting with the officials of Energy, Panchayat Raj and other departments to resolve the issue of electricity bill payment being faced by several hundred villages in the State.

The Transco, which supplies power to the village panchayats in the State is insisting that the village panchayats have to clear pending dues worth more than Rs.700 crore.

On the other hand, most panchayats are not in a position to clear the dues due to financial constriants. Most of the small panchayats have very low income and mainly depending on the 14th Financial Commission grants sanctioned by Union government.

In order to resolve the dispute, the State government will convene a meeting with the high level officials very soon.

Principal secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain who attended a programme in Vijayawada recently said the Government will convene a meeting with the top officials of the Energy, Panchayat Raj and other departments to resolve the problem.

Ajay Jain said the Transco has to make payments to Genco and meet other expenses to run the organisation. He has made it clear that the Transco could not supply free of cost to village panchayats.
