Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating the newly constructed district cooperative marketing society (DCMS) buildings here in Rama Rao Pet on Tuesday, the Finance Minister recalled several measures initiated by him while heading cooperative Ministry during 1985 -87 under NTR government. 

Kakinada: Cooperative sector right from market committees, primary agriculture cooperative societies and cooperative banks play a very crucial role in rural development, apart from helping the farming community, according to Minister for Finance Yanamla Ramakrishnudu.

Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating the newly constructed district cooperative marketing society (DCMS) buildings here in Rama Rao Pet on Tuesday, the Finance Minister recalled several measures initiated by him while heading cooperative Ministry during 1985 -87 under NTR government.

Turning his attention towards sugar factories in cooperative sector, he said that efforts were being made to streamline the works, with all possible help from government.

In this connection the Minister quoted effective functioning of cooperative sugars in Maharashtra. As part of strengthening the cooperative sector, Ramakrishnudu said that the DCMS through its networking PACS bodies were permitted to purchase paddy from farmers apart from other activities.

Yanamala complemented the efforts of K V Satyanarayana Reddy chairman of East Godavari DCMS for making organisation a profit making body. He also suggested that the assets of DCMS should be utilised as viable income sources for improving its financial status.

To make the agriculture profitable through cooperative moment, the Finance Minister suggested following Kerala cooperative movement, where medical and other fields were also being run without the government intervention.

Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa suggested conversion of properties of DCMS in Tuni, Samalkot and Amalapuram into commercial complexes to get regular income on the assets.

He also announced Rs 25 lakh for construction godowns at each place where the DCMS has its own sites.MLAs Pilli Anantalakshmi, Jyothula Nehru, Chirla Jaggi Reddy and others were present.
