Chittoor: The Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) personnel and policemen of Kanipakam and Gudipala police stations have raided various places at Katiganahalli in Karnataka and arrested 13 interstate red sanders smugglers. Based on information provided by smugglers, the police recovered 1.5 tonnes of red sanders logs in Katiganahalli and seized four vehicles.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas appreciated task force and police personnel for arresting interstate smugglers. He said Katiganahalli village is hotbed for red sanders smuggling activity. To desist residents of Katiganahalli from taking up smuggling of red sanders logs, the SP said that district police conducted awareness camps in the village. He stated that 10 more interstate gangs are still involved in smuggling of red sanders logs in Katiganahalli.

He appreciated Karnataka police for extending cooperation to district police and task force personnel to conduct raids in their territory for the last two years. Referring to the Central government’s decision to scrap Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, the SP assured that police assistance would be given to the banks from Friday onwards to handle heavy rush customers.

Additional SP V Ratna, DSP Lakshmi Naidu and I Town CI Vijayakumar were present. Later, the SP presented the awards to the police officials of Kanipakam and Gudipala police stations for their outstanding performance in nabbing the smugglers.
