The MPDO had questioned the hotel staff over the poor hygienic conditions in the hotel and had allegedly manhandled the staff and the owner’s wife Venkata Lakshmi. 

Eluru: Scores of people including a hotel owner and his family staged a road blockade on the National Highway at Dubacharla village in Nallajerla mandal on Thursday, in protest against the alleged high handedness of a Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO).

According to the police, the Nallajerla Mandal Parishad Development Officer S Chinna Rao went to a hotel “Renuka Tea Stall” on Thursday for inspection purpose.

The MPDO had questioned the hotel staff over the poor hygienic conditions in the hotel and had allegedly manhandled the staff and the owner’s wife Venkata Lakshmi.

Taking umbrage at this, hotel owner Veeranki Raju informed his neighbours about the incident and along with his wife, neighbours and staff, and villagers of Dubacharla, squatted on the national highway at Dubacharla centre in Nallajerla mandal demanding action against the MPDO. The blockade continued for over one hour until 9.45 AM resulting in many vehicles being stranded.

The agitation was called off after Anantapalli sub-inspector V Venkateswara Rao along with his personnel reached the spot along with Tadepalligudem Circle Inspector G Madhu Babu and promised the protestors of inquiring into the MPDO’s behaviour and taking prompt action.
