​Guntur: People, who went for shopping on Wednesday, have to face problems as the traders did not accept Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes. Traders, vegetable vendors, auto drivers rejected the notes.

Though petrol bunks have accepted the notes, they forced the people to purchase petrol for Rs 500 instead of giving change. Tourists, who came to visit tourist spots in the district, also faced inconvenience.

P Sai Krishna, a resident of A T Agraharam, said: “When the traders refused to accept Rs 500 and Rs1000 notes I have purchased essential commodities on credit card in a super market. I received my salary on Tuesday. Luckily, I have given house rent. But, domestic maid refused to take Rs 500 notes.”

Based on the instructions given by the government, Guntur district superintendent of police Narayan Naik instructed the toll plaza officials to accept the notes.”

Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Guntur district president Atukuri Anjaneyulu said: “Due to ban on Rs 500, and Rs 1000 notes, business transactions worth Rs 1000 crore came to a grinding halt. Vegetable and petty traders incurred losses.”
