Eluru: West Godavari district administration has set up a Special Control Room at the district Collectorate for bankers to respond to any eventualities. Conducting a meeting with the officials concerned and the police department and bankers, District Collector K Bhaskar on Thursday directed District Revenue Officer (DRO) Katta Hemalatha to take all necessary steps for the efficient functioning of the control room.

The Collector said that following the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs1,000 notes, the general public would visit the 596 bank branches to exchange the old currencies until December 30 and the bankers might have to work late nights for the same.

If the bankers have any problem in their bank branches with the customers during the currency exchange, the control room would help them over the phone. He said that the Special Control Room number 1800 4256292 would work round-the-clock and lead bank Manager M Subrahmanyeswara Rao, a Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) and an assistant of officer cadre from the Revenue Division would attend duties at the control room.

The collector suggested to the public not to quarrel with the bank personnel during the exchange of currency as they were only implementing Reserve Bank of India’s directions. He directed bank officials to call the control room toll free number if anyone tried to create hurdles or clashed with the bank staff and said police would respond to those calls and provide security to the bank staff. At the same time, the collector advised the bank staff to clear the exchange process as quickly as possible.
