Visakhapatnam: In-charge Collector T Baburao Naidu at an emergency meeting convened here on Thursday asked the District Lead Bank Manager Sarat Babu to see that sufficient quantity of new currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 be kept in all branches and ATMs to meet the demand to ensure smooth exchange of big notes.

Senior superintendent of Post Offices K V L N Murty urged the In-charge Collector to provide a sum of Rs 10 crore to take up the exchange of big notes in all 120 post offices in the district and in response, the latter has asked the Lead Bank Manager to provide the same.

Joint Police Commissioner Khan was asked to initiate steps for arranging bandobust at all banks and ATMs without giving room for any untoward incident.

Appeal to Chief Secretary: Baburao Naidu appealed to the Chief Secretary over phone to permit Mee-Seva Centres and Call Centres of BSNL and APEPDCL in the district to exchange big notes as there was a huge demand here. The Chief Secretary assured that he would apprise the Union Finance Minister and try to get the permission.

A Control Room was set up at the Command and Communication Centre, Collectorate to address the problems if any while exchanging big notes where the officials of banking, postal and revenue will be present.

The In-charge Collector urged the general public to inform the Control Room over Ph Nos: 2735606 or 2735665 if they face any problem. District revenue officer C Chandrasekhara Reddy was also present.
