Ongole: Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhan said that the State government is committed to the uplift of minorities and termed it as minority-friendly government. He paid rich tributes by garlanding the statue of the freedom fighter and first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his birth anniversary on Friday at Old Market centre.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said, “Ours is a minority friendly government. We provide shadikhanas at all areas in Ongole constituency for Muslims and construct another floor on the existing shadikhana at Islampet. We could invite the Chief Minister for its opening.” Joint collector Dr Hari Jawaharlal said that Azad had worked for the harmony between various religions and everyone should draw inspiration from him.

Later, MLA Janardhan distributed cheques for Rs 50,000 each to 20 beneficiiaries under Dulhan scheme.
