Kurnool: District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan said that everyone should take inspiration from the life of Maulana Abul Kalam. He participated in the 129th birth anniversary celebrations of Abul Kalam at Sunaina Auditorium here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Mohan said Abul Kalam had played a vital role during independence struggle and had given high importance to the education sector. He called up on the students to follow the footpaths of Kalam to achieve their goals. He said proposals worth Rs 12 crore were sent to the government for the construction of mosques in the district. He further stated that financial assistance was extended to 1,000 members under Dulhan scheme and bi-cycles also distributed to the students of 10th class. He assured of looking into the scholarships matter. Around 11 stitching training centres were established in the district in which 50 per cent are being trained from the Muslim community itself, he added.

National Minority Commission member Praveen Dhavat assured of his assistance for the welfare of the Muslims. Recalling the separation of Pakistan from India, he said Abul Kalam made every effort to stop the India-Pakistan partition but his efforts went in vain. He further said that Abul Kalam had served as Education Minister for 11 consecutive times and strived for improvement of education sector in India due to which 11th of November has been declared as National Education Day by the Central government.

Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy, bringing to the notice of the National Minority Commission, said around 80 per cent of Muslims are under Below Poverty Line in the district. He urged the commission member to solve the problems of madrasas as they are lacking minimum facilities besides teaching staff. Later, prizes were distributed to the students, who took part in quiz competition held on the life history of Dr APJ
Abdul Kalam.
