Tirupati: A fire which broke out in Balaji Nagar forest area on Tirumala hills on Saturday evening was put out by the TTD forest staff at primary stage itself thereby preventing the fire from spreading in the forest.

According to TTD additional divisional forest officer Satyanarayana, a pilgrim going on a two-wheeler on the ring road noticed thick smoke billowing from the forest near Balaji Nagar and informed the Forest department immediately. The department personnel promptly pressed two fire engines into services and brought the blaze under control.

Satyanarayana said that it was rather a difficult operation as the personnel had to operate on a risky hilly area with the slope leading to a deep valley with dense trees. He did not rule out the hand of some miscreants behind the fire and said they were investigating the incident.
