Forest and Environment Minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy formally inaugurated the five-day event at an impressive function at the TTD run SV Arts College grounds. 

Tirupati: The five day `Cherukuri Lenin-Volga Memorial 9th under 10-14 and 9 years national archery competitions’ began on a colourful note here on Saturday. As many as 610 boys and girls from 25 States and one army sports unit are participating in the competitions which are being held for the first time in the pilgrim centre.

There was a gala atmosphere at the venue as athletes from various parts of the country along with their families, and locals and sports lovers congregated on the occasion.

The event is being jointly organised by various sports organisations including Archery Association of India, AP Archery Association-Cherukuri Volga Archery Academy, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, AP Olympic Association, Chittoor District Archery Association, District Sports Authority and Chittoor district Olympic Association.

AP State Archery Association organising secretary Satyanarayana said that the archery competition was being held in three categories: Traditional, Recurve and Compound.District Archery Association secretary PV Ramana, local association president Dhanjaya and others were present on the occasion.
