Don’t create artificial scarcity, Joint Collector warns traders

Kakinada: East Godavari Joint Collector S Satyanarayana warned of stringent action traders including invoking PD Act if any attempts were made to create artificial scarcity or raise the prices of essentials in the district.

Reviewing the supply of essential commodities, with wholesale traders and civil supplies department officials at Collectorate on Sunday, Joint Collector appealed to public not to believe in rumours and get panicked since there is no shortage of essential commodities in the district.

Satyanarayana on this occasion revealed the measures initiated by civil supplies department and also on the availability of Rs 100 notes to cater to the needs after de-monetisation.

The JC also said that the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will be accepted in market along with to procure medicines, hospitals, meeseva centres, house tax payments, petrol outlets besides registration department till midnight of November 14(Monday).

He directed the officials to ensure that the prices of essentials to be displayed in Rytu Bazaars and with other major outlets. Satyanarayana also directed both civil supplies and revenue authorities to verify the stocks of essentials available with wholesalers in the district.

East Godavari lead bank district manager B V Subrahmanyam said that efforts are being made to get additional Rs 100 notes to cater to the needs of consumers and traders. Kakinada RDO, B R Ambedkar, officials of civil supplies and revenue departments attended.
