Tirupati: CPI activists led by its District secretary Rama Naidu staged a protest before the main branch of State Bank of India here on Monday demanding setting up of more counters in all banks to facilitate people smooth exchange of old currency notes.

Speaking on the occasion, Rama Naidu said people were forced to wait for long for the exchange of notes due to inadequate counters in the banks for exchange of demonetised notes of Rs 500 and 1000 while some banks were issuing only higher denomination Rs 2000 notes for exchange of old notes, instead of Rs 100 notes.

Further, the cash withdrawal in most of the ATMs in the city is still to commence while even in few ATMs were the facility started, the cash is available only for an hour, he said demanding the authorities to take steps for provide cash through ATMs to ease the heavy rush in the banks for exchange of notes. CPI leaders including city secretary Chinnam Penchalaih and others were present.
