Eluru: Jute workers resorted to a road blockade on GNT Road here at Jute Mill centre in protest against the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

The Jute workers led by IFTU, CPI (ML) New Democracy displayed placards and banners against the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to scrap the higher denomination notes.

The workers expressed their concern over non-payment of wages by the Management of the Jute Mill management following the decision of the Centre. Thanks to the road blockade, traffic was stranded on the GNT Road and Over Bridge.

About 6,000 workers of Sri Krishna Jute Mill and Hessian Jute mill in Kothuru of Pedapadu Mandal have not been paid their salaries by the Management as a result of the demonetisation decision of the Union government, said IFTU District Committee General Secretary U Venkateswara Rao.

Hundreds of Hamali workers and construction workers are struggling as they haven’t been paid their daily earnings, he said.CPIML-New Democracy leaders Badda Venkatrao, Kakarala Apparao, IFTU leaders Yarra Srinu and others led the agitation.
