The Collector held a review meeting with officials of the Education department on Thursday and said that parents can dial 9849909105 and express their opinion on the mid-day meals scheme, maintenance of kitchens and gardens and the basic infrastructure at government schools. 


Eluru: West Godavari district Collector K Bhaskar said that he would talk to the parents of various government school students from 10.00 am to 11.00 am over the phone to enquire about the performance of government schools in the district from them, as part of ‘Badi Gantalu’ programme.

The Collector held a review meeting with officials of the Education department on Thursday and said that parents can dial 9849909105 and express their opinion on the mid-day meals scheme, maintenance of kitchens and gardens and the basic infrastructure at government schools.

The Collector reprimanded the officials for not eliciting the opinions of parents through the ‘Badi Gantalu’ programme as instructed. Informing that 16,037 students had dropped out from government schools in the district, he directed officials to find out the reasons for this. He asked officials to convince parents in the case of students who had dropped out due to financial reasons.

He said treatment would be provided to students who had dropped out due to health issues and they would be readmitted. He directed officials to inspect the teaching equipment, kitchens, gardens, playgrounds, labs, libraries and computers in the schools and said that damaged and obsolete equipment should be replaced.

He also directed officials to introduce the subjects on Moral Science, Life skills and Health in the curriculum and also take a decision on the faculty for teaching those subjects. DEO M Madhusudana Rao, Sarvasiksha Abhiyan Project Officer Dr K Brahmananda Reddy, Deputy DEO Vijayakumar and MEOs participated.
