Pithapuram: Agriculture officer Ch Satyanarayana on Thursday lauded the outcome of the field trials of Surabhi SP 9164 paddy seeds and put the yield from the seeds at 45 to 50 bags an acre.

Inspecting the farm of Tummala Veerababu in Kandarada village where the seeds were under experimentation, Satyanarayana said that the seeds produced high yield with relatively low investment.

He said that farmers had been experimenting with the seeds for the past two years and observed that the application of fertilisers and pesticides came down drastically reducing the input costs.

He advised farmers to select only those seeds that give them high yields with low input costs. Nuziveedu Seeds GRM V Satya Prasad said that Surabhi paddy seeds would be made available to farmers and said that the seed processing unit was providing seeds only to those farmers who can withstand pest attacks.
District Marketing Officer Pratti Rambabu, agriculture extension officers and farmers of Kandarada and Chandrapalem were present.
