​Vijayawada: There is only one urban tahsil office for 15 lakh population in the city. There is a demand for establishment of two tahsil offices in the city for the past several years.

Proposals have been sent to the State government several times since 2007, but in vain.There has been workload on the tahsil office employees resulting in inordinate delay in extending services to the people.

In fact, the area of the city is not vast. However, it is thickly populated. Before the bifurcation of the State, the population of the city was less than 10 lakh. However, now it has touched 15 lakh. The tahsildar is responsible for issuing caste, income, residence and other certificates.

The necessity to open two more tahsil offices was identified even before bifurcation of the State one in east and west assembly constituencies. The tahsi office is responsible for looking after the protocol in case of visiting dignitaries and other higher officials.

The government should wake up from slumber and open two more tahsil offices, said Kasinath, a citizen. Proposals have been sent afresh six months ago for opening two more tahsil offices in the city.

The proposals were sent to allot the present tahsil office to the Vijayawada (central) Assembly constituency and to set up two more offices—one at Patamata and another at Bhavanipuram. The citizens are looking forward for the formation of two more offices to get their work done at the earliest in the tahsil offices.
