Vijayawada: The State government will construct multi-storey building for the use of Water Resources Department (WRD) offices. Right now, they are working from staff quarters in Swarajya Maidan popularly known as Public Works Department (PWD) ground in the city.

The WRD department took the initiation for the construction of multi-storey building at Irrigation Circle premises beside the camp office of Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao. The WRD officials prepared the blue print of the proposed multi-storey building with ground-plus four floors and divided into three blocks.

The Minister discussed with irrigation employees union leaders and officers about the building construction and assigned the job to Inland Waterways Authority (IWA) Assistant Director (AD) Sridhar. They prepared initial estimate cost of Rs 25 crore for the same.

Already, work began at the site to erect four floors in three blocks. Engineer-in-Chief (ENC) of WRD, Krishna Delta Chief Engineer, Krishna Central (KC), Krishna Eastern (KE), Special division, Polavaram Project and its sub divisions and other offices will set up in the new building.

The State government had taken the Vijayawada Irrigation Circle (IC) building and set up Chief Minister’s camp office after the renovation. Later, Irrigation officers residence quarters were also took by the Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma who constructed his camp office. All the WRD offices shifted to staff quarters, which were constructed under the Krishna Delta Modernisation for the purpose of staff residence.

Atlast, the government took a decision to construct G+4 building for all the offices including ENC, CE and other offices facing towards Museum road and making all arrangements for the same.

Krishna district Irrigation Employees Union district president B Chiranjeevi speaking to 'The Hans India' said that the Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao gave the assurance to construct the multi storey building. All the offices would be shifted to the new building after completion of construction, he said. The IWA AD Sridhar has been taking initiation for the new building construction, he added.
