The banks did not provide facilities like drinking water to customers, who were waiting in a queue to exchange currency, even though the District Collector had instructed them to do so. 

Chittoor: Customers thronged to banks on Saturday despite the Central government declared that they would lend services only to senior citizens. The nationalised and regional banks in the city accepted old notes from customers only for some time as they did not receive adequate currency from the chest branches.

The banks did not provide facilities like drinking water to customers, who were waiting in a queue to exchange currency, even though the District Collector had instructed them to do so.

Security personnel had tough time to control influx of customers at banks. Retail shops and commercial establishments refused to accept Rs 2,000 notes with rumours of fake notes are in circulation.

Depositing of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes has come down as several customers had already deposited in their accounts. Residents are eager to get new notes either from banks or ATMs so that their basic needs are met.
